Dr. Aruna Seneviratne

Dr. Seneviratne is a fellowship trained, Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon and an Associate Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the Mount Sinai Medical System and Icahn School of Medicine. He specializes in disorders of the shoulder, knee, and elbow as well as all sports-related injuries. He utilizes advanced open and arthroscopic surgical techniques to restore damaged joints, ligaments, and bones.

Dr. Seneviratne has authored several peer-reviewed, scientific articles, and book chapters. His academic work has been presented nationally and internationally at several specialty meetings.

Born in Sri Lanka, Dr. Seneviratne immigrated to the United States and grew up in Southern California. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of California and his MD degree from New York Medical College.

Dr. Seneviratne performed his Orthopedic Surgical Residency at the prestigious Hospital for Special Surgery where he was awarded the Lewis Clark Wagner Award for Excellence in Orthopedic Research.

He received his fellowship in Sports Medicine from Lenox Hill Hospital where he participated in the care of athletes from the New York Jets, New York Islanders and Hofstra University athletic teams.

Dr. Seneviratne received additional training in complex shoulder problems as well as articular cartilage injuries in his traveling fellowship to Harvard University, Rush University, and the San Antonio Orthopedic Center.

Dr. Seneviratne has been selected to NY Magazine’s Top Doctors list in the field of Sports Medicine in 2013 to 2021. Currently he serves as a team physician for local New York City schools. He is also a medical consultant to the USTA and a team physician caring for tennis players at the US Open Tennis Grand Slam Championship.
